With deep sorrow, the community of Harlan, Iowa is mourning the tragic and sudden loss of 19-year-old Jacob Buman, who died Wednesday evening following a devastating motorcycle crash in Shelby County, Iowa. Investigators reported that Jacob was riding a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound when he struck the rear of a 2010 Apache 715 field sprayer that was also traveling northbound and beginning a left turn into a driveway. The collision happened during the sprayer’s turn, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and come to rest in the ditch. Despite rapid emergency response, Jacob was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
The driver of the field sprayer, identified as 37-year-old Luke Applegate of Shelby, was not injured.
