Sarah Poplasky Modesto, CA Car Accident, Death: Family And Friends Mourns
Sarah Poplasky Modesto, CA Car Accident, Death Obituary:
Authorities have identified the woman killed in a tragic hit-and-run crash in Modesto, California, and investigators are now appealing to the public for help in locating the vehicle involved in the deadly incident.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 44-year-old Sarah Poplasky of Modesto.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. on April 24 along Riverside Drive, south of Nathan Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Poplasky in the roadway with severe injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators reported that Poplasky had initially been standing on the east shoulder of Riverside Drive before entering the roadway and moving into the path of northbound traffic. She was first struck by a 2000 Ford pickup truck driven by a 59-year-old Modesto man, who remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
After the initial impact, she came to rest in the northbound lane, where she was struck again by a second vehicle—a white sedan, possibly a Nissan or similar make—that was traveling behind the pickup. Authorities say the driver of this second vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.
CHP has since released information urging the public to help locate the suspect vehicle, which may have damage to its lower front bumper. It was last seen traveling northbound on Riverside Drive after the collision.
While preliminary findings suggest Poplasky may have entered the roadway intentionally, officials emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and no final determination has been made.
The intersection of Riverside Drive and Nathan Avenue was closed for about 90 minutes as officers documented the scene and collected evidence.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the white sedan or the incident to contact CHP Modesto Detective Aaron Norseen at 209-545-7440.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on finding answers, identifying the hit-and-run driver, and bringing clarity to a deeply tragic and complex case that has left the community grieving.
